Straight Ahead Pictures (SAP) www.disabilitymuseum.org
A non-profit organization that creates innovative media projects and educational forums using history to foster community dialogue about contemporary social issues. Founded in 1989, nearly all of SAP’s original work relates to the cultural history of the body, especially the disability experience. SAP is the sponsor of The Disability History Museum, a longstanding web based resource about the history of people with disabilities. In 2016 the site averaged 12,750 unique visitors monthly.
Laurie Block's work has focused on how questions about who is fit and who is not in American society are shaped by historical factors. She directs The Disability History Museum, and is a co-founder of the Disability History Archives Consortium, a group of academic institutions and ngos working to aggregate online digital humanities resources about the cultural history of people with disabilities.
Collaborative for Educational Services
The Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) is a non-profit, multi-service agency based in Northampton, Massachusetts, linking education, schools, families, and communities to opportunities and resources that advance student learning. For 35 years, CES has collaborated with local, state, and national organizations to create resources that advance the inclusion of people with disabilities as full citizens in society.
Richard Cairn, Director Emerging America, Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Program at the Collaborative for Educational Services. Emerging America provides professional development to hundreds of teachers annually across Massachusetts. He is a member of the Massachusetts Task Force on Civic Engagement and Learning.
Keene State College
Founded in 1909, Keene State College serves the citizens of New Hampshire and the region as a scholarly community of higher learning, offering associate's, bachelor's and selected master's degrees, and opportunities for continuing education in credit and non-credit programs and courses.
Graham Warder, Education Coordinator, serves on the faculty at Keene State College. He teaches American History, including disability history, and taught an interdisciplinary course called "Becoming Helen Keller." He served as Library Acquisitions Director at The Disability History Museum and was responsible for building a robust digital collection of artifacts related to the cultural history of disability in the U.S.
